The Book

Stories you cannot film in a single take.

Behind every episode was a longer story — weather that would not break, lodges at the edge of the map, fish that still live in memory. This is that book.

Amazing Adventures from the Fish'n Guy

Henry Waszczuk has spent more than thirty-five years taking viewers fishing. From the co-founding of Canadian Sportfishing to award-winning series such as Fishing the Flats and Fins & Skins Classic Adventures, he has hosted and produced thousands of episodes across freshwater and saltwater.

This collection gathers the adventures that shaped the Fish'n Guy — remote seaplane camps, bonefish on gin-clear flats, peacock bass in the Amazon, and the Canadian waters that started it all. It is part travel journal, part fishing memoir, and part thank-you to the guides, crews, and friends who made the miles worthwhile.

  • True expeditions. Destinations that defined a career on camera and off.
  • People and places. Lodges, guides, and the moments television never had time to tell.
  • A conservation heart. Written by a pioneer of catch-and-release angling on Canadian television.

Inside the pages

Adventures from the edge of the map.

A handful of the waters that still tug at Henry — the kind of places that turn a fishing trip into a story you tell for the rest of your life.

01

The Bahamas

Gin-clear flats

Bonefish, permit, and tarpon over water so bright it looks invented. Island hopping, poling skiffs, and the quiet concentration of sight-fishing.

02

Christmas Island

Equatorial thunder

Where giant trevally crash the reef like freight trains. One of the most electric hook-ups an angler can ask for — still on Henry’s short list decades later.

03

Belize

The barrier reef

Jungle meeting saltwater. Permit that refuse to eat, tarpon that explode, and a coastline that rewards patience as much as skill.

04

Costa Rica

Both oceans, one country

Guanacaste and the Gulf of Papagayo — cubera, marlin, sailfish, and the Pacific energy that kept drawing the cameras back.

05

Canada

Home water

From coast to coast — the lakes, rivers, and fly-in camps that built Canadian Sportfishing and never stopped feeling like the beginning.

06

The Amazon

A river of stories

Peacock bass, fanged payara, fruit-eating fish, and a shore lunch of piranha. A week that still answers the question: favourite adventure?

The Author

From Grey Cup Sundays to seaplane Mondays.

Henry Waszczuk was born in Peterborough, England, and arrived in Canada at the age of two. A standout at Eastdale Collegiate in Oshawa, he earned a football scholarship to Kent State University, then a first-round call from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

He played ten CFL seasons at centre (1975–1984), earning multiple All-Star honours, two Grey Cup appearances, the Tom Pate Memorial Award, and a place on the Tiger-Cats’ all-time Dream Team. On the side he taught high school science in Hamilton.

In 1985 he co-founded Canadian Sportfishing and helped bring fishing television to a national audience — Canadian Sportfishing, Extreme Fishing, Sportfishing Adventures. Later, through Fins Media Group, he hosted Fishing the Flats and Fins & Skins Classic Adventures on TSN and FOX Sports. He has co-authored eight sportfishing books, published travel magazines, and pioneered catch-and-release techniques still used by anglers today.

Inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame in 1989, Henry remains a sought-after speaker, conservation advocate, and the man viewers still call the Fish'n Guy.

From the water

Lines that stay with you.

There are so many adventures that have touched my soul. The fish are only half the story.

Henry Waszczuk

A great destination is the adventure itself — the water, the people, the lodge, and the fish that made you stay one more day.
